Hello all!

I was just diagnosed with Hashimoto's Thyroiditus about a month ago. I am 20 years old, and the first thing my doc told me was that the medicine if my thyroid failed could make you infertile....so I asked her to try another method.

My gynecologist, Lisa Roberts, a certified Nurse Mid Wife was actually the one who checked my thyroid for me.

She has a vitamin shop in her office, and when she checked my thyoid also found out I have a D3, B12, and Iron deficiency (which can make you tired and is found in a LOT of Hashimoto's patients).

Since I have begun taking the medicine she gave me I have felt MUCH better. I was reading through some of the posts on here, and nobody has mentioned a gluten/wheat free diet??

The first thing Lisa told me was to eliminate gluten/wheat from my diet, and I wouldn't constantly be throwing up every day.

Being tired was coming from all of my deficiencies, so since I take an iron pill, B12 pill, and D3 daily I haven't been tired at all!

I hope this helps some of you out there. I'm still super new to it, so I'm not sure how the wheat free diet helps, but if you have any idea please let me know!

My gynecologist has corrected the thyroid in 3 of her patients by using this method, so obviously she knows what she is doing. She doesn't want to just use medicine after my thyroid has failed, but actually fix the problem of the thyroid. Smiley

I would love your input on this, and since I am sooooo new to this it would be so helpful for your input!

Hi Jessi,

It's so exciting to hear you have gone straight to someone who believes in working naturally with this disease. What medication did she give you?

I have gone gluten/wheat free. Here's my blog which gets quite a bit of traffic and especially the particular post on the possible connection with gluten:

http://myhashimotosthyroiditis.com/blog/hashimotos-thyroiditis-and-emotions-can-energy-therapy-help-plus-update-on-gluten-sensitivity-naet-and-eft/

It is common for people with Hashimoto's to attempt to go gluten/wheat free. It can help your symptoms greatly BUT so far I have not heard of any which have reversed the disease by doing it. I believe there could be other allergic components as well as the vitamin/mineral deficiencies your doctor is working on in you.

I would love to hear of your updates as you get them.

What is your current test results for the antibodies? Are you under 1,000 or over? In other words, what thyroid tests did she give you that confirmed Hashimoto's. Hypothyroid by itself is a much less complicated issue although it is as difficult to treat at times.

Keep in touch if possible and thanks for posting. Look around the forum and please stop by my main webpage and see the front page for information directed at the newly diagnosed.

Take care and please come back and let us know any new thoughts you may have. Sounds like you have gotten a GREAT start with the doctor you have.

Also, Jessi - make sure to read my top post on the forum on "How to Live Better with Hashimoto's Thyroiditis" especially for the newly diagnosed.

Hope it helps too...
