I'm curious to know if anyone has had their thyroid zapped radioactively or surgically removed and if it is recommended. I am seriously considering this and intend to discuss the possibility with my physician. I have been regulated on synthroid for 6 years and just recently began to experience debilitating symptoms of crashing. I do not want to go through this again and again. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!!

Hello Seabupa, (fun name to say) Smiley

I am sorry this is a late response. What are your symptoms? I would strongly advise against this decision IF you have a bent towards natural healing. I believe it is always better to keep in your body those organs which are trying to communicate with you that something is wrong. Have you tried any special ways to help the thyroid besides traditional therapy?

Have you considered different ways to help your symptoms like those listed in my article here:

http://www.ehow.com/how_2080117_live-better-hashimotos-thyroiditis.html

Doctors are usually way too anxious to remove organs from your body. I would suggest that you find a natural doctor to see if you can first find alternatives to this decision.

Having said all this, it is your body, and you must do what is comfortable for you.

I hope this helped a bit. Maybe someone else will chime in. I have gone through a family crisis this year so the board hasn't been as active as it used to be. I hope it will gain activity in the near future.

Sorry again for the delay in responding.

Hang in there and hope you find the answers you need to make a decision.

I have had part of my thyroid removed.  It was done because it created a lump in my throat (physically).  After a biopsy, they said I had lymphoma which I guess I am stuck with that diagnose until I pass a time frame.  I had part of it removed, they found one cancer cell. I've had 2 friends have their thyroid zapped, but they did not have hasi.

Are you taking your synthroid in the morning, once you get up?  Are you having something to eat one hour after?  This works best for me.
