Hi Berry,
That is a very good question. Unfortunately, this board emphasizes on the layman support side so the technical stuff is not really a strong point. (at least for me) Others may have had the experience and can answer your question. Hopefully they will.
I would have to "guess". What causes the body to send antibodies in the first place is greatly unknown. My guess is that there is a root problem that should be addressed. However, if you are at a stage that you must have your thyroid removed, you must do what seems right for you.
If we could only identify the "triggers" of these antibodies, we could slow down or stop the damage to the thyroid. I am presently working through an allergy elimination technique (NAET) that may have some of these answers but at this time, I can't say for sure - it's really just a theory I am exploring.
My hunch is that "at the root", Hashimoto's is a response by the body to eliminate an invader (in our case - the thyroid). Why? That is the question. I believe we will eventually find the answer.
For now, I would assume that with the invader gone, the antibodies may not be sent out anymore. I am almost sure there are some registered for this forum that have had complete removal and might be able to answer this based on testing after removal. If no one responds, let me know and maybe I can send out a quick e-mail next week with your question and see if anyone has the answer to your question. Just drop me an e-mail next week if the question is still unanswered.
Take care and hang in there.
Mo
