Is a high TSH number actually bad?

Although I feel fine off my Synthroid, I do sometimes wonder if the fact that my body is still making TSH can have its own adverse effects. The hypothalamus tells the pituitary to make the TSH, and the pituitary does that, so that's two glands making two hormones theoretically to excess..... is that bad? Are there negative consequences to that?
