I'm just wondering what everyone's experience has been with regards to allergies and intestinal issues? I am curious if there is a relationship between intestinal problems and autoimmune diseases (seeing how the bulk of our immune responses occurs in our gut).

In the past I have wondered if I had yeast overgrowth and/or leaky gut as well as various food allergies. With no definitive answer though, I am unsure how to proceed.

I had been on antibiotics for a couple years as a teenager for acne. There is no doubt that this totally screwed up my intestinal flora! Since that time I wonder if some of the health issues I've had were related to a flora imbalance (probably a huge imbalance) and a leaky gut and all of these leading to my body producing auto antibodies and now being hypothyroid.

Your thoughts are greatly appreciated.

Janet,

This is so interesting. YES! I think many of us have seen this likely connection to Hashimoto's Disease. But I will speak for myself and hope others chime in.

As you know, I am currently working on allergies diligently - not just allergy management, but the hope of allergy elimination. If this is successful - I hope to know by June or earlier - I should see a big change in my thyroid panel tests. I am hopeful. So far, I feel much better and believe there are big changes going on BUT as they say, the "proof is in the pudding" (where did that expression come from anyway? Oh, nevermind, that's a whole other subject!) Smiley

I've done many diets to attempt to "kill the yeast" or as I used to say "kill the beast", and although I felt better, I am not sure I did everything right. It is tricky. There is a very good book called "The Fungus Link" which is similar to "The Yeast Connection" but easier reading (in my opinion) and I believe there would be some benefit in researching that approach. However, what I am doing now is dealing with a different issue. There is no doubt in my mind that the modern food chain is heavily laden with damaging components to our intestinal health. Which battle we pick is really the question.

I am looking forward to more discussion on this topic.

Anyone else have some wisdom on this?

Thanks for the book recommendations, Mo! I think I'll see if they have these at my library--gotta start somewhere!

I'm so glad the NAET is working for you! I look forward to hearing how the panels look in June.

NAET is fantastic.  I'm a practitioner of it and am continually amazed by it.

I treated myself and cleared the food, but then became allergic again.

It turns out I had leaky gut caused by candida!!  I was becoming re-allergic.  It has been a journey to kill the candida and heal my leaky gut.

The more NAET I do, the better I feel.

I also do a treatment using thyroid and Hashimoto's vials.  This stops the attack on my thyroid within an hour or so.

Sometimes I add the T3 or T4 vials to the food I'm treating for.

Welcome Deborah!

How exciting to know you are a NAET practicioner. NAET is the first real help I've ever found for my symptoms and I am raving everywhere about it. It seems though that it is not going to be as simple as I was hoping to reverse this disease because if anyone could have done it so far with NAET alone, I would assume it would be you. Smiley I am looking forward to further discussion if you can possibly spare the time. I've been going about 2 times per week since November with wonderful success.

Where are you located?

I have a wonderful NAET doctor in Central Cal. by Yosemite. We are trying to figure out how to address the antibody issue but I am not sure we have addressed everything. Do you have any recommendations I can bring to her from your perspective? I have some "head issues" - feels like I get inflammed and become dizzy and feel like I'm going to pass out which I usually feel is allergic because it is either after I eat something (which is less often since doing so much NAET) or seasonal which is always an issue in the spring. We've done pollen and trees, and finished radiation which I still may have some lingering symptoms from. I do feel there is a serious connection between lack of digestion and the symptoms but sometimes they come on right before I eat which sometimes seems related to the lighting in the restaurant. It's like a detective game. (maybe even emotions sometimes)

I've been scared to get my thyroid panel done. (just afraid I won't see success) Last test was in the fall of last year when my antibodies were at 3,000 plus. Sad My TSH was good though. Muscle testing indictated I could go down on my Naturethroid from 1 1/2 grains to 1/2 grain. Do you use muscle testing for this purpose too or do you always use test results to control the medication? I would really appreciate hearing from you on this issue.

We have done what the doctor has seen as a "thyroid protocol" where we have done a series of allergens with Thyroxine and T4. I believe we are almost done with that. Is there something else you recommend we do before we move on with other basic allergens? We've done the organs (major ones) and we will be doing some testing on the brain because of my head issues. It seems like an endless battle sometimes but I am so encouraged by the results so far (food allergy progress) that I want to continue. Maybe she can make me a vial of Hashi's and thyroid for home use?

Thank you so much for stopping by. You have no idea how much this has encouraged me.

One more question for Deborah,

You said that the treatment for Hashi's with the vials usually stops the attack within an hour. Can you describe the symptoms you associate with an attack? I've always tried to figure out what symptoms were directly associated with an attack but since I can't get antibody tests on the spot, I haven't been able to specifically be sure of the connection between my symptoms (especially short term) and an attack.

Thanks in advance for answering.
