I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's 8 years ago. I naturally believed I would be on Synthroid the rest of my life. My PCP is young(er) and surprisingly, tested my Free T3 and Free T4 as well as TSH. All were within normal limits but I kept gaining weight and feeling bloated. Last year was the worst winter of my life as I suffered from shivering constantly,  exhaustion and unbelievable depression. My TSH was 5.102 ( lab values of 0.35-4.94 ) My doctor increased my Levothyroxine from 75 mcg to 100 mcg. Initially, I lost 5 pounds and felt so much better...until my body got used to that amount. I gained the 5 pounds back quickly in spite of low fat diet and walking 3 miles most days of the week. I don't even have to look at the clock, I know when it's 2:30 in the afternoon as that's when I feel like I've been run over.

I've had Mary Shoman's book, The Thyroid Diet and subscribe to her site as well as this one. Somewhere along the line, I bought Datis Kharrazian's book. It was shelved over the winter and I just started reading it. Talk about AH HA moments! 6 years ago I developed asthma, now my gall bladder is acting up. My PCP doesn't feel they are related to my thyroid! HA! I've started this week trying gluten free and in just two days of doing that, I feel less bloated. Weight loss will take time. This week I intend to go to a local naturopath whose class I took at our community college. Everything IS related and dependent of caring for our endocrine systems. I'm pretty sure I won't get the help I need from my PCP, as young and updated on modern medicine as he is. I don't want more pills and I most definitely don't want my gall bladder removed!

I'm so glad for this site and the others...we are not alone!!!!

Sheila,

I am sooo glad you are here and that we can all learn together. You are describing a journey much like the rest of us. It helps to know we are not alone!

I hope to have some "new" information to post this week but I am waiting to be sure of the details. The good news is that I believe there are even more "ah ha" moments coming soon for all of us. I am definitely optimistic for the first time in years and I can't wait to share it with you all. Smiley

Take care and let us know how it goes with your naturopath.

As you can probably see, we have been working to upgrade our forum so if you have any problems posting or logging in, please let me know.
